Balloon Experiment 2
We wanted to find out if other liquids would blow up a balloon like the
White Vinegar did in our first
balloon experiment.
We tested 4 different liquids:
Malt Vinegar, Milk, Sparkling Water and Coke
We made it a FAIR TEST by using the same glass bottles, the same colour balloons, 1/2 a cup of each liquid and
3 teaspoons of baking soda.
The only variable we changed was
the liquid.
Some of us thought the
MALT VINEGAR
smelt a little bit funny!
We put the liquid into the bottle
using a funnel.
We put the BAKING SODA in the balloon by using a funnel.
We made predictions about
what would happen.
Some of us thought the balloon
would fill with gas
and some of us thought it
would not fill with gas.
We observed what happened...
when Lauretta tipped the
baking soda into the malt vinegar.
We saw a chemical reaction.
The baking soda and malt vinegar mixed together to create a gas called carbon dioxide.
It bubbled up and the gas blew
up the balloon.
We did the same experiment
but this time we used milk.
We made predictions about what we thought would happen.
This time the balloon did not fill with gas, it was floppy.
We did the same experiment
but this time we used sparkling water.
We made predictions about what we thought would happen.
There was a little bit of a
chemical reaction.
The balloon was filled with a small amount of gas.
We squeezed the balloon
to see what it felt like.
We did the same experiment
but this time we used coke.
We made predictions about what we thought would happen.
There was a little bit of a
chemical reaction.
The balloon was filled with a small amount of gas.
These are our results from out experiment.
We are wondering why the
malt vinegar had the biggest
chemical reaction!
